Traveling alone in Tanzania

My wish for a very long time was to see Africa and I decided to wait no longer and realize it in summer 2009. I began with a safari through Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater and ended close to Dar es Salaam for some relaxing days at the beach.

During all the time I realized that people were very kind and willing to socialize with me. A girl at Mount Meru Lodge actually took some time and we started a conversation. She asked me why I am traveling alone, why no one is with me, if I get bored. While in Germany it is not so unusual that people spend time or travel alone, in Africa this is quite unusual.

Hofstede captured this cultural difference in the cultural dimension of Individualism/Collectivism.
